Earlier this month, we celebrated The Monkey’s THIRD (how is that even possible?!?) birthday with a two-day party extravaganza! There was lots of family, fun, and of course…cake! When I had asked The Monkey what kind of birthday cake he wanted, I was convinced it would be something in the Toy Story family (he’s had a Buzz Lightyear obsession for quite some time) but he surprised us all when he adamantly insisted on Spiderman (I think The Bug’s big-brother interest in super heroes is rubbing off). So, Spiderman it was! In the past, I’ve always made some kind of fancy cake, but I looked at a few Spiderman cake pans and wasn’t confident that I could make something that wouldn’t turn out just to be a red and blue blob of a mess. So I went the cookie route instead. I searched everywhere for an oval or egg-shaped cookie cutter (shouldn’t be too hard to find, right?) and totally came up empty handed. So, we improvised. It was so fun to watch The Monkey open presents because he’s finally at the stage where he gets it, especially since we had just had Christmas.
At Christmas, it was hilarious to see The Monkey’s reaction to the presents…The Bug opened a present and yelled, “I got a DS!” The Bean opened one and yelled, “I got an American Girl doll!” But The Monkey? He ripped open the paper, looked at the box, and yelled, “I got a BOX!” He was much more excited for presents at his birthday since he now realized that there are equally good things inside the box! :)

Leave a CommentEek! The kids are getting so big!
I LOVE that he’s still in his Buzz shirt during his Spiderman shin-dig! I love his crazy hair and how cute they all are. I love that he was super into the box at Christmas and that as he emulates his big brother, that he’s being taught the super important things, like superhero love (as I sit here typing this, I have on my Batman tshirt- totally appropriate).
For the record, GREAT photo of you too! You are looking GOOD, Mere! :-)

Sus, they are getting CRAZY big! Scary! And his hair is completely crazy...he needs a haircut, but I know it will make him look so big, so I keep putting it off! And I'm totally jealous that you have a Batman shirt! I know you're super adorable in it (photo please)!
