Bug posse

Yesterday I went to pick up the Bug from school (they let them go one at a time and the parents have to sign out the munchkins) and his teacher, Ms. Margie, informed me at the door of his classroom that there was a bit of a situation and said that I'd have to pick him up in the office! What?! So I go to the office and find out that apparently when it was time to line up after recess, the Bug and four of his buddies decided they weren't going in. Great... So they release the kid to me (I think he rather would have stayed in the office) and we talk about everything on the way home. The conversation went a little something like this:

Me: "Bug, what happened today? Why didn't you obey when your teacher called you to line up after recess?"
The Bug: "I wanted to stay and play in the sandbox, so I said, 'Farewell.'" What?! Farewell? What kind of three-year-old response is that? Then he goes on, "Brett, and Xavier, and me were sliding on the slide on our bellies and rescuing my girlfriend." Did he just say girlfriend?
Me: "Your girlfriend?"
The Bug: "Cecilia." Fabulous, so now we've got a revolt coupled with a girlfriend.

He's writing a note of apology and taking it to his teachers in the morning. And video games? Not a chance, kid. And this on the eleventh day of school...it's going to be a long year...
