Back it up
|
Husband and I had a conversation a few days ago that's still resonating with me...there's a difference between being sorry and asking for forgiveness. If I, when I've wronged someone, merely say that I'm sorry, that's a simple assertion of the way I'm feeling. It's like saying that I'm happy today, or sad, or whatever. It's just a feeling. Saying "I'm sorry" isn't enough...it does nothing to address the fact that I've done something wrong and need to make it right. Asking for forgiveness takes it a step further into the realm of action. Backing up those feelings by humbling myself and doing something to correct the situation. It's taking responsibility and owning up to whatever wrong I've caused. It's not pleasant. It's not comfortable. No one likes to be wrong or hurt someone else. But forgiveness, and asking for it when I need to, is the only way to truly deal with a problem.
