In what seems the blink of an eye, we somehow went from this…
The Bean made birthday crowns for everyone!
This past weekend we celebrated the Bug’s first completed decade! DECADE!! How that is even possible, I can’t seem to figure it. This boy, I love him more than I know how to say. And I hope he feels even a micron of the love my heart holds for him. I’m so awed, proud, and thankful to the Lord for the person that He is making him to be. I can’t wait to see what the next ten years hold for my Bug. To give you an idea of his heart, when I asked him to make a birthday wish list, he said there was nothing he needed. I tried to tell him that it’s ok to want things, that people wanted to get him presents, and wanted to get him things he truly would enjoy. After much coaxing and prodding on my part, he did come up with a list. Of two things. I asked him to try one more time. He was able to come up with a few more things. So practical, this one.
He didn’t want a big party, just time to hang out with his closest buddies, and some time to have a family celebration. So that’s just what we did. I’m a firm believer that the birthday person gets what the birthday person wants on their birthday. That, and that birthday cake is what’s on the menu for breakfast the morning after a birthday. Two of his three best friends, the exact ones he celebrated with last year, came over and made the afternoon so fun! Gotta say, these boys are the answer to prayer in the Bug’s life…we’ve prayed that he would find at least one friend that loves him deeply and loves the Lord, and God has been so good to answer that prayer. The boys wanted to head over for some laser tag and then back to the house for cake, presents, and hang out time. Perfect.
Friends headed home in the evening, then it was family time for supper, more presents, and cake!
Everyone gets a turn to blow out the candles together!
I think he really had a great day. Happy birthday, Bug! I’m sure the next one will be here before I know it… :)
